Why do we start with Gait? (Week 1, Term 3, 2016)

Each week we explore the possibility that the foundations of optimal, pain free movement can seamlessly fit into your your daily life (ok I admit initially there may be some seams, but the benefits are cumulative and absolutely worth any efforts you make).

Take Your Time
We aim to empower you with the understanding that it’s the kinds of things we do every day that can lead to functional problems and pain, and then we offer you some practical solutions.  You can't change a lifetimes worth of habits (and tissue adaptation overnight). So be patient, be kind and be consistent to get the best results.

You Are How You Move
The fact is that all of our body tensions translate into how we walk - and how we walk can contribute to further tensions. So (drum roll please!....) if we repair how we walk we can become stronger and feel so much better just through living our daily lives.

So how we walk (our Gait Basics program) underpins all that we do. If you've heard me talk about this already then that's fantastic. Keep listening, keep practicing - and build upon how you can bring these key exercises into your daily life. Not that there is anything wrong with doing them in one practice once a day - but even better is to be doing elements of this practice multiple times a day adding to your movement nutrition as often as possible (Need some inspiration? read about the Competition at end of post).

If you do nothing else this week (but I know that you will, I mean you can be knee cap lift and lowering and sliding your hips back standing in line at the supermarket ....right?!) please Calf Stretch. Your sheet tells you how and I'll tell you more about why it is so important next week.

Here is an anonymous entry of some toe socks and their owner getting ready for bed. Is that a Simpsons comic I spy? No judgements, I love the Simpsons!
